Rutgers Data Science Reddit, hi, i'm a second year intending to major in computer science and data science (stats concentration) and wanted to get advice on this schedule for spring 2024 sem. I know what I want to learn in data science and the curriculum outlined in the DS certificate/minor is not going to teach me what I want — or at least not at the technical depth that I want to learn it at. It is very project intensive. In Intro to data science, everything is machine learning. I would say intro to data science is way more interesting and beneficial than AI. Looking at the curriculum, it does not seem rigorous enough to be worth pursuing. The organization exists to guide data science enthusiasts, provide academic resources, and create a community for all students interested in data science careers! Our members hold a variety of majors and minors, and hail from business, tech I have a dilemma. You should consider on taking intro to data science, Data 101, Data Management for Data Science, statistical inference for data science, CS 336 (Databases), intro to deep learning. The course involves some statistical theories and coding in R that you may find very tedious or very easy depending on your background and previous courses in cs/math/stats. Data science major/minor is a new interdisciplinary program so imo you will just be a lab rat for Rutgers to figure out how to run/set up the major for the future. I think to get a better foundation though you should take stuff across math and stat departments too. Depending on the Software Engineering job you get, you may find yourself doing light data science. This fall I plan on taking Calc II, Data structures, nutrition and health, and intro to logic, but I also want to take data management for data science or intro to data science.
